I was a successful public relations man to the stars, then artists’ manager. The first professional feather in my cap was to convince a young songwriter to perform. Doubting if anyone would want to see him perform on stage, Neil Diamond nonetheless took my advice, and the rest, as they say, is history. Eventually, my world began crashing in around me. Surrounded by past successes and the promise of yet more, I found myself in a deep depression. Therapists and medication helped somewhat, along with support from my family and friends. What eventually pulled me out of my doldrums was Vipassana meditation. I began to reevaluate my life, learning to appreciate the people around me, and to recognize just how blessed I really was. As Cary Grant once remarked upon spying me with my sons, “I think you’re the luckiest man I’ve ever seen.”
